Azure SQL Database High Availability - Dan Hess

Let's talk about High Availability in Azure.  Most know that when we create an Azure SQL database, we automatically get three copies of that data.  Some know about geo-replication.  But how many are aware of the new (in preview) feature of Failover Groups for Azure SQL databases?  Did you know you can use an Azure SQL database as a replica in an on-prem Availability Group?  These are some of the topics we'll dive into, letting you leverage the flexibility of the cloud with the features of listeners and active replication.  With this information, you'll have options to design a hybrid HA solution using on-prem and cloud databases, or a full high availability solution solely in the cloud.

Dan Hess has been in IT since 1997, graduating from California State University, Chico with a computer science degree. He's been focused on SQL Server since 2007 when he was given the "accidental DBA" title. After learning to swim in the deep end and moving jobs to Sacramento, he saw the need to help others who were in a similar position and helped to form the Sacramento SQL Server user group. Database administration is his primary focus.
