Data Warehousing 101 - Greg Vaughan

Abstract:
Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, Teradata, Big Data, NoSQL and on and on:  The world of data analytics and reporting has never been more diverse, confusing and full of buzzwords.  With multiple vendors promising solutions based on technologies rather than design what ever happened to data modeling and the data warehouse?

There is no denying the future of analytics includes many of these technologies,  but let’s not forget that for 30+ years the enterprise data warehouse has been the backbone of most companies' data strategies.  It is still relevant today and has a major part to play in the future success of complex and heterogeneous analytics systems.

So what is a data warehouse?  During this session we will introduce data warehousing concepts and explain what a data warehouse is and is not by contrasting it with other other relational models (primarily transactional systems).

Bio:
Greg is a 20 year veteran BI architect, developer and technical leader with experience in multiple business domains including travel, government, manufacturing and insurance.  He is the owner of Intelligent Data Solutions Consulting focusing on developing database and data warehouse solutions that allow companies to leverage their data assets efficiently and effectively.
